Theo Asthalin Forte (Salbutamol 4 Mg + Theophylline 200 Mg)

Theo-Asthalin is used to prevent reversible airways obstruction occurring during asthma, infections of airway passages (bronchitis), lung disorder in which the flow of air to the lungs is blocked (emphysema), and other lung diseases. Theophylline is used to prevent and treat wheezing, shortness of breath, and chest tightness caused by asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (a group of lung diseases that includes chronic bronchitis and emphysema). It is also used to treat temporary interruption of breathing (apnea) in newborns.

Theo-Asthalin is an adrenergic receptor (?2) agonist. It works by relaxing the muscles in the walls of the small airways in the lungs, which helps to open up the airways and make breathing easier. Theophylline belongs to a class of drugs called xanthines. It works in the airways by relaxing muscles, opening air passages to improve breathing, and decreasing the lungs response to irritants.

Theo-Asthalin Forte Tablet is a combination of two medicines: Salbutamol and theophylline. It works by relaxing the muscles in the airways and widens the airways. This makes breathing easier.

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Theo-Asthalin Forte Tablet is to be taken empty stomach.
Take this medicine 1 hour before or 2 hours after food. You can take it with food if stomach upset occurs.
Avoid Theo-Asthalin with caffeine and chocolate as well as food containing caffeine and chocolate such as tea leaves, cocoa beans.

Theo ASthalin Forte Tablet is used for Asthma, Shortness of breath, Chest tightness, Lung disorder, Wheezing, Respiratory disease, Interruption of breathing in newborns and other conditions. Theo ASthalin Forte Tablet may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

Light headedness, Fainting, Restlessness, Irritability, Chest pain or discomfort, Increase in urine volume, Or irregular heartbeat, Fast, Persistent vomiting, Trembling or shaking, Stomach upset, Insomnia, Stomach pain, Diarrhea, Dizziness, Pounding or rapid pulse, Slow, Headache, Fits.

•  Use Theo-Asthalin inhalation exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not use in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.
•  Always keep the inhaler upright during the loading of the dose and administration steps.
•  If you can feel a slightly sweet tasting powder in your mouth after inhaling, you have received the dose and the active substance has reached your lungs.
•  During use, regularly wipe the mouthpiece with a fibre-free tissue or soft cloth.
•  Always replace the inhaler cap after you have used the inhaler.
•  Always tell your doctor if you suffer from an over active thyroid gland.
•  Take special precaution if you experience chest pains.
•  Take special care with salbutamol if you suffer from any disease of the heart.

Salbutamol (also available as Asthalin, Ventolin, Albuterol) is a beta receptor agonist used to prevent and treat wheezing, difficulty breathing, chest tightness, and coughing caused by lung diseases such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. It is a rescue inhaler for asthma. It is not a st***d or contains st***d or an antibiotic. It is not an addictive drug.

Q. Does Theo-Asthalin need prescription?
Yes. Theo-Asthalin is available only by prescription.

Q. Is salbutamol/ Asthalin/ Ventolin safe during pregnancy?
Salbutamol is only recommended for use during pregnancy when there are no alternatives and benefit outweighs risk. Always consult your doctor regarding its use.

Theophylline (also available as Unicontin) is a xanthine derivative and a nonselective phosphodiesterase inhibitor. It is a stimulant; not an antibiotic or beta agonist. Theophylline is a bronchodilator and used to prevent and treat wheezing, shortness of breath, and chest tightness caused by asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, and other lung diseases.

Q. Is theophylline safe during pregnancy?
Theophylline is only recommended for use during pregnancy when there are no alternatives and benefit outweighs risk. Always consult your doctor regarding its use.

Q. Does theophylline cause weight gain/ raise blood pressure/ weight loss/ insomnia/ tachycardia/ constipation/ hair loss?
Theophylline may cause increased heart rate, irregular heartbeat, insomnia. However, it is unlikely to cause weight gain, weight loss or hair loss. If any of the above side effects occur while taking theophylline, check with your doctor immediately.

Q. Can you take Theo-Asthalin with food?
You can take Theo-Asthalin with or without food; but avoid drinks, foods, or diet pills that contain caffeine, such as coffee, tea, cola, and chocolate while taking theophylline. It can increase the risk of unpleasant side effects.

Q. Does theophylline need to weaned/ tapered?
No. Theophylline need not be weaned or tapered.
