Syncapone 50 is used to treat symptoms such as stiffness, tremors, spasms, and poor muscle control associated with Parkinson disease and parkinsonism-like symptoms caused by taking certain other drugs such as chlorpromazine, fluphenazine, perphenazine.
Syncapone 50 is used in combination with levodopa to treat symptoms associated with Parkinson disease and parkinsonism-like symptoms caused by other conditions. Entacapone is used in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease in combination with levodopa and carbidopa.
Syncapone 50 is a pro-drug and crosses blood-brain barrier where it is converted into a chemical (dopamine) in the body which is required by the brain for proper functioning and relieves symptoms associated with Parkinson’s disease. Syncapone 50 works by preventing the breakdown of levodopa in the bloodstream. This allows more levodopa to enter the brain, where it can decrease Parkinson’s symptoms. Entacapone belongs to the class of drugs known as COMT (catechol-O-methyltransferase) inhibitors. Entacapone works by increasing the levels of levodopa and carbidopa in the brain, thereby helping to relieve the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease.

Levodopa is converted into dopamine in the brain, low levels of which causes Parkinson’ disease symptoms. Carbidopa stops the premature breakdown of Levodopa before it can reach the brain and take effect. Entacaope helps to increase the level of Levodopa in the body.
Take Syncapone 50 anti Parkinson’s disease medication (Stalevo, Syncapone) strictly according to your doctor’s direction or according to the instructions on the medication label. Do not alter the dosage unless your doctor advises you to do so. Also, do not take this medication after the prescribed period is over. All medications come with a patient leaflet. Refer the instructions in them for detailed information on that particular medication. Before taking Carbidopa, Levodopa, and Entacapone, take care of all precautions mentioned above. You must take plenty of fluids while taking Syncapone 50 medicine as you can easily become dehydrated while taking it. This can result in severely low blood pressure, or a serious electrolyte imbalance.
If you miss a dose of Syncapone 50, take it as soon as you remember. Don’t take the missed dose if the time to take the next dose is almost up. Taking multiple doses near to each other can lead to excess medication in your body which can be harmful.
In case of an overdose of Syncapone 50, get emergency medical attention or call the Doctor immediately. Overdose may lead to symptoms such as weakness, loss of coordination, trouble breathing, fainting, or seizures.
Other drugs can interact with Syncapone 50 medications. Inform your doctor if you already use any drugs, especially these ones: apomorphine, cholestyramine, dobutamine, epinephrine, isoniazid, isoproterenol, methyldopa, metoclopramide, papaverine, phenytoin, probenecid, blood pressure drugs, antibiotics, or antidepressants.
However, these are not all the drugs that can potentially interact with Carbidopa, Levodopa, and Entacapone. There can be others. You must inform your doctor about all the medications which you may be taking. Never start a new medication without proper medical advice.
