Pentasa Suppository (Mesalazine Suppository)

Pentasa Suppository (Mesalazine Suppository) is a medicine that is used to treat mild to moderate ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease. It is a type of drug called 5-aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA). Know about its investigations, side effects, dosage, how to work, how to use, how long does it last, side effects, dosage, and Precautions. We also have in stock Pentasa 500 mg (Mesalazine 1gm) which is used to treat the same indications.

What are Suppositories (Mesalazine Suppository)?

Mesalazine Suppositories are solid, bullet-shaped preparations designed for easy insertion into the anus (back passage). They are typically made of solid vegetable oil that contains the medicine. The mesalazine suppository dissolves at body temperature and gradually spreads over the lining of the lower bowel (rectum), where it is absorbed into the bloodstream.

Suppositories are used either to provide a local action in the rectum or as an alternative to oral forms of medicine (when someone is continuously feeling sick or is unable to take anything by mouth). The drug is quickly absorbed from the rectum as there is a plentiful supply of blood vessels in this area.

When is Pantasa Suppository Prescribed?

Hemorrhagic rectocolitis: Attack treatment for mild to moderate flares and maintenance treatment.

Crohn’s disease:

  • Attack treatment for mild to moderate flare-ups and prevention of acute attacks for frequently recurrent forms.

Pathologies for which this drug may be prescribed:

  • Hemorrhagic rectocolitis
  • Crohn’s disease

How Dose Pantasa Suppository Work?

5-aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA or mesalamine) belongs to the group of medications known as an anti-inflammatory. It is used to manage mild-to-moderate ulcerative colitis and mild-to-moderate Crohn’s condition. 5-ASA acts by reducing infection in the bowel.

Different brands of 5-ASA are designed to act on different places in the gastrointestinal tract (the digestion tube that runs from the mouth to the anus). Ulcerative colitis affects the colon and rectum only, while Crohn’s disease affects the whole gastrointestinal tract. For this reason, some brands are used to treat only ulcerative colitis, while others can be used to treat both Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.

How do I use this medicine?

Take your mesalazine suppository dose at the same times each day. If you forget to take your dose, take it quickly that day.

Pentasa Suppositories Uses Tip:

Insert the suppository into the anus. It does not matter whether you insert the suppository with the tip forward or with the blunt side ahead. If you moisten the suppository with a few waters, you can add it a little easier.

If you lose the Pentasa suppository within 10 minutes, because you have to go to the toilet, you can insert a new one.

Mesalazine (Pantasa Suppository) Dose:

If you use Pentasa 500 mg Tablet in the evening only: does it take more than 8 hours before you take the next dose usually? Then bring in the forgotten dose. Try to stay a few hours after insertion so that the medicine can remain in the gut for long enough to work. Does it take less than 8 hours? Skip the forgotten dose.

If you use this medicine twice a day: does it take more than 4 hours before you use the next dose frequently? Then bring in the forgotten dose. Try to lie down for a few hours after insertion so that the medicine can stay in the gut for long enough to work. Does it take less than 4 hours? Skip the forgotten dose.

Yes, Certain Aspects of Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis Can Affect Fertility. Fertility is broadly thought of, for women, like the ability to become pregnant with a baby. There is more to the story, however, particularly in women who have a chronic illness such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

Yes, in the absence of treatment, Crohn’s disease usually tends to get worse over time and may result in serious complications. These are called flares. The flares typically alternate with periods of remission when there’s no active inflammation or symptoms. Those with early or mild disease usually have milder symptoms.

Yes right, it can also run in families. About 20 percent (1 in 5) of people who have Crohn’s disease have a blood relative with some form of inflammatory bowel disease, usually a brother or a sister, and sometimes a parent and child. Crohn’s disease is generally diagnosed in people between the ages of 20 – 30.

Still, it’s a severe disease that can cause some dangerous complications, especially if you don’t get the right treatment. Ulcerative colitis is one form of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Ulcerative colitis is a lifelong situation that you have to manage, rather than a life-threatening illness.
