Multiple myeloma is a cancer of the blood, characterized by accumulation of a plasma cell clone in the bone marrow. lenalidomide capsules 25 mg is one of the novel drug agents used to treat multiple myeloma. It is a small molecular analog of thalidomide that was originally found based on its ability to effectively inhibit tumor necrosis factor production. Lenmidomide is 50,000 times more potent than thalidomide in inhibiting tumor necrosis factor-alpha, and has less severe adverse drug reactions. In a phase III clinical study, Weber et al. found that Lenmidomide plus dexamethasone in patients with relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma was superior to the old treatment of multiple myeloma consisting of high-dose dexamethasone alone.

lenalidomide capsules 25 mg is used for treatment of a certain type of myelodysplastic syndrome (a group of conditions in which the bone marrow produces blood cells that are misshapen and does not produce enough healthy blood cells) caused by an abnormal chromosome. Lenmid is also used for treatment of anemia (a lack of red blood cells in the body) and along with dexamethasone for the treatment of multiple myeloma (a type of cancer of the bone marrow) who have received at least one prior therapy.

Multiple Myeloma: Lenmidomide in combination with dexamethasone is indicated for the treatment of patients with multiple myeloma (MM) who have received at least one prior therapy.

Myelodysplastic Syndromes: lenalidomide capsules 25 mg is indicated for the treatment of patients with transfusion-dependent anemia due to low-or intermediate-1-risk myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) associated with a deletion 10q cytogenetic abnormality with or without additional cytogenetic abnormalities.

Mantle Cell Lymphoma: lenalidomide capsules 25 mg is indicated for the treatment of patients with mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) whose disease has relapsed or progressed after two prior therapies, one of which included bortezomib.

Proper Use of Lenmidomid
Take Lenmidomide exactly as directed by your doctor. Do not take more of it, do not take it more often, and do not take it for a longer time than your doctor ordered. Also, do not stop taking Lenmidomide without checking with your doctor first. Direct any questions to your doctor or pharmacist before starting lenalidomide capsules 25 mg therapy. .
You should take the necessary precautions to avoid pregnancy while taking Lenmidomide. Use one highly effective form of birth control plus an additional effective form of birth control at the same time, if abstinence is not the chosen method. Begin this 4 weeks before starting Lenmidomide and continue it for 4 weeks after stopping the medication.
