Indocap SR 75 mg (Indomethacin)
Indocap SR 75 is used to treat pain or inflammation caused by many conditions such as chronic inflammatory disorder that typically affects the joints in your hands and feet (rheumatoid arthritis), joint disease (osteoarthritis), arthritis that affect the spine (ankylosing spondylitis), pain, inflammation, and swelling following orthopedic surgery, musculoskeletal disorders, painful periods (dysmenorrhea), low back pain, severe swelling of the tendon (tendinitis), sudden burning pain, stiffness, and swelling in a joint, usually a big toe (gout), inflammation of one or more bursae (small sacs) of synovial fluid in the body (bursitis).
Indocap SR 75 belongs to a group of drugs called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It works by reducing chemicals that cause inflammation and pain in the body.
Indocap SR 75 is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). Indomethacin works by reducing hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body. Indocap SR is used to treat moderate to severe osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, gouty arthritis, or ankylosing spondylitis. Indomethacin is also used to treat shoulder pain caused by bursitis or tendinitis. Extended-release indomethacin (Indocap SR) should not be used to treat gouty arthritis. Indomethacin may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Indocap SR 75 can increase your risk of fatal heart attack or stroke, especially if you use it long term or take high doses, or if you have heart disease. Do not use this medicine just before or after heart bypass surgery (coronary artery bypass graft, or CABG). Indomethacin may also cause stomach or intestinal bleeding, which can be fatal. These conditions can occur without warning while you are using indomethacin, especially in older adults.

Even people without heart disease or risk factors could have a stroke or heart attack while taking this medicine. These conditions can occur without warning while you are using indomethacin, especially in older adults. You should not use indomethacin if you are allergic to it, or if you have ever had an asthma attack or severe allergic reaction after taking aspirin or an NSAID. To make sure indomethacin 75mg is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have: heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, or if you smoke; a history of heart attack, stroke, or blood clot; a history of stomach ulcers or bleeding; asthma; liver or kidney disease; or fluid retention. Taking indomethacin during the last 3 months of pregnancy may harm the unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant while using indomethacin. Indomethacin can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. You should not breast-feed while using this medicine. Indomethacin is not approved for use by anyone younger than 14 years old.
Follow all directions on your prescription label. Do not take this medicine in larger amounts or for longer than recommended. Use the lowest dose that is effective in treating your condition. Do not crush, chew, break, or open an extended-release capsule. Swallow it whole. If you take indomethacin for a long period of time, your doctor may want to check you on a regular basis to make sure this medicine is not causing harmful effects. Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Do not allow the liquid medicine to freeze.
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
Seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222. Overdose symptoms may include vomiting, severe headache, dizziness, confusion, numbness, tingling, or seizure (convulsions).
Avoid drinking alcohol. It may increase your risk of stomach bleeding. Avoid taking aspirin while you are taking indomethacin. Ask a doctor or pharmacist before using any cold, allergy, or pain medicine. Many medicines available over the counter contain aspirin or other medicines similar to indomethacin. Taking certain products together can cause you to get too much of this type of medication. Check the label to see if a medicine contains aspirin, ibuprofen, ketoprofen, or naproxen.
Anal irritation, Difficulty in controlling bowel movements, Dizziness, Headache, Ringing in ear, Vomiting, Constipation, Diarrhoea.
• Take the drug with meals or a snack to prevent a stomach upset.
• The drug can cause stomach ulcers and bleeding. Do not take this drug with other blood thinners without talking to your doctor.
• Consult your doctor immediately, if you have symptoms of bleeding in your stomach or intestines.( black, bloody, or tarry stools, or coughing up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds).
• Do not use this medicine just before or after having heart bypass surgery.
• Do not exceed the recommended dose or duration of treatment. You might be at small increased risk of heart attack (‘myocardial infarction’) or stroke.
• Indomethacin 75mg can cause headaches, dizziness, drowsiness and visual disturbances in some people. If this happens to you, avoid activities which require you to be alert; for example, driving a car and operating machinery.
• If you are epileptic.
• If you have parkinson’s disease.
• If you have a psychiatric problem.
• If you have heart disease, high blood pressure or have a tendency for fluid retention.
• If you are being treated for infection or you have a fever.
• If you know you suffer from asthma, digestive tract, liver or kidney disease, diabetes or heart failure.
• If you have a problem with your blood clotting.
• If you notice any change in your vision especially during chronic inflammatory disorder that typically affects the joints in your hands and feet (rheumatoid arthritis).
• If you are planning to become pregnant or if you have problems becoming pregnant as Indocap SR 75 mg may make it more difficult to become pregnant.
