Augmentin 1000 (Amoxicillin / Clavulanic Acid)
Augmentin 1000 Tablet (Amoxicillin / Clavulanic Acid) belongs to a class of antibiotic medicines called penicillin. It is used to treat bacterial infections of the respiratory tract (bronchitis, pneumonia), genital and urinary tract (gonorrhoea, ), skin and soft tissue, ear (otitis media); nose, sinus, and throat (tonsillitis, sinusitis); heart (endocarditis), kidney, urethra or bladder, blood (septicemia), teeth and gums (abcesses), typhoid and paratyphoid fever.
Augmentin 1000 is used to increase the effect of certain antibiotics (amoxicillin) to treat bacterial infections of the respiratory tract (bronchitis, pneumonia), urinary tract, ear, nose, sinus and throat, skin and soft tissues, bone and joints, and to prevent infections after surgery.
Augmentin 1000 is an unusual antibiotic of the broad-spectrum action. Most known antibacterial drugs contain only one active component. Often, using such drugs, bacteria develop a resistance and the efficiency of the treatment falls. In order to avoid this, it is enough to buy Augmentin 1000 and the treatment of the severe infectious diseases will be more effective.
Augmentin contains two active components namely amoxicillin and clavulanic acid.
Augmentin 1000 is very popular antibacterial drug which may destroy the most different morbific microorganisms. It provides a fast pharmacological action with bactericidal effect. The therapeutic effect appears because this component destroys the cell wall of bacteria and makes them vulnerable.
Bacteria die within a short period of time and the infection symptoms completely pass.
But the action of Amoxicillin is often bothered by components (b-lactamase) produced by these microbes. Due to this, many one-component antibiotics do not bring the needed results in the treatment of the infections. Clavulanic acid, as a component of Augmentin drug, provides a resistance of Amoxicillin to the influence of b-lactamase increasing its area of the action.
The combination of these two components provides the high efficiency.
Augmentin 1000 kills bacteria by interfering with the production of the bacterial cell wall (outer coating of bacteria). As a result, the bacterial cell wall is weakened and ruptured, thereby killing the bacteria.
Clavulanic acid belongs to a group of medicines called beta-lactamase inhibitors. It blocks the activity of a chemical (beta-lactamase), which is secreted by bacteria to protect themselves from antibiotic drugs like amoxicillin, thereby allowing the antibiotics to act against the bacteria. It does not kill bacteria and is never used alone to treat infections.
Use Augmentin as directed by your doctor.
Take Augmentin 1000 by mouth with or without food. If stomach upset occurs, take with food to reduce stomach irritation.
To clear up your infection completely, take Augmentin 1000 for the full course of treatment. Keep taking it even if you feel better in a few days.
Does not use if you are allergic to any other penicillin antibiotic, have liver or kidney failure or mononucleosis.
Do not use the medicine if you have allergy to its components or another penicillin antibiotics, you have infectious mononucleosis, a history of liver problems or yellowing of the eyes or skin caused by Augmentin.

- Chloramphenicol, macrolide antibiotics (eg, erythromycin), sulfonamides (eg, sulfamethoxazole), or tetracycline antibiotics (eg, doxycycline) because they may decrease Augmentin 1000 effectiveness
- Methotrexate because the risk of its side effects may be increased by Augmentin
- Live oral typhoid vaccine or hormonal birth control (eg, birth control pills) because their effectiveness may be decreased by Augmentin.

Q. Is antibiotic + clavulanic acid combination effective against STD, MRSA, or pseudomonas infections?
It is effective against s**ually transmitted diseases (STD) caused by bacteria and pseudomonas infections, but weakly effective against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus infections (MRSA).
Q. Is amoxicillin + clavulanic acid (Augmentin) safe in G6PD deficiency?
There are no confirmed studies about the safety of amoxicillin + clavulanic acid (Augmentin) in G6PD deficiency. Consult your doctor before use.
